I was wondering whether to write this post as it is an answer to another article that was published in Polish. Yet considering that many of my readers are from Poland I decided that it makes sense. So here it is – a couple of my thoughts.
2023 A Lazy Year?
When I look at my blog I have an impression it was a lazy year. But was it really? I don’t think so. At least I don’t feel like I got a lot of rest and time to be lazy. Yet what I see is that certain things did not go as efficiently as I would love them to. One of them being the blog itself.
2022 Coming back to in-person conventions
2022 was a year when I came back to attending in-person conventions. The pandemic is not over and I am trying to be cautious but I was missing meeting people and enjoying the atmosphere. Yet I did not forget about the online and hybrid events!

20 Years Passed Way Too Fast
I cannot believe it but it seems twenty years have passed since I joined fandom. Unfortunately I somehow missed the date. I should have been celebrating on 2nd March as my first convention – DOJIcon 2 took place March 2nd 2002. Twenty years – who would have thought? Certainly not me those twenty years ago.
The doors are important
So the Hugo ceremony during this year’s Worldcon caused a lot of commentary online. I won’t concentrate on it though. George R.R. Martin received a lot of deserved criticism both on twitter and in longer posts and you may find a lot of valid arguments there (some summary is here). Yet one of the threads was brought to my attention and made me write this post.
Online Conventions and Where to Find Them
Previously, I had been sceptical towards online conventions. Admittedly, as soon as I learned about the first one, I decided to attend it and give it a try. I was quite positively surprised by the outcome. Since then I visited a few more of them and I learned something new during each event.

“Fandom stories” – a tale about Polish fandom
Usually, I avoid writing about books that would be problematic for my readers to read but this time I am making an exception. I am doing this as I believe that the book Fandom stories is important enough to mention it here. This is a reportage about the Polish fandom written by a person who does not consider himself as a member of it. The book is mainly targeted at a general audience, but as a long-time fandom member I still found it quite fascinating.

The story of the GUFF that happened
I am back from my GUFF trip and it was such a great adventure. I kept writing my trip report while I was in Australia and New Zealand and it is so far around 25 pages long. Keep your fingers crossed as I should be able to publish it later this year or prepare it for Ytterbium next April. Anyway, I think some of you may be interested in what happened and here I want to describe the trip a little bit, hoping you still would be waiting for the report.
Worldcon 75 – The Great Experience part 2
Worldcon is a pretty difficult event to organise. Your team will probably consist of people who live in different time zones and don’t know each other prior to the beginning of the work. I really like how it worked this year and I am grateful to all the staff members who made participating in Worldcon 75 organisation such a memorable experience.
You can find first part of my report here.

Worldcon 75 – The Great Experience part 1
Oh dear! Worldcon 75 was such an exhausting and memorable event. Despite the fact it has ended a few days ago, I am still not fully recovered. Nevertheless, I will try to make a proper convention report. This time it will be split into two posts since Worldcon is somehow huge. Also I have more than one perspective on it, being both a Worldcon member and a staffer. I will try to be impartial but you know – it is not 100% possible when you have devoted a lot of your time and heart to the convention.
