The first Magnificon back in 2003 was one of my first conventions. Although I am not attending manga cons any more I thought that the anniversary would make a good reason to come. Similarly to 2018 I had some mixed feelings but let’s go there step by step.
KONgres 2023 or No Rest For the Conrunners
April was a bit crazy month for me. I did what I promised myself not to do. Namely I attended four conventions in a row. Corflu, Eastercon, Lajconik and KONgres (which I will summarize here). Funnily the last in the series was a convention for Conrunners. I was a bit afraid I will be too tired to enjoy it to the full extent but fortunately it was not the case!

Lajconik 2023 – Back to the In-person con
After two years of online conventioning and one year break Lajconik 2023 came back to the realm of physical cons. Yet I didn’t manage to fully embrace the event. It took place on the same weekend as the Glasgow 2024 All Staff meeting. I had to split my time between both events meaning I didn’t manage to participate in any of them to the full extent.

Conversation – Fully Hybrid Eastercon 2023
I rarely have the occasion to visit Eastercons in person. In fact I did it only in 2018 and 2019. Yet since convention went online (or hybrid) it became way easier for me to participate in this event. I was very satisfied with online offering last year, but Conversation went beyond my expectations.

Corflu Craic – my fird fanzine convention
I wanted to attend Corflu for a few years. It wasnot so easy though. The previous European one was in 2021 when I was not feeling confident enough to travel to an in-person convention. When I was willing to travel a year ago it was held too far away. Yet both in 2021 and 2022 I attended Corflu online. So the 40th Corflu Craic in Belfast was in a way my first and third fanzine convention at the same time (hence it is my fird convention!).

Lure of Middle-Earth
There are many reasons I am going to conventions. Yet this one was very specific. Lure of Middle-Earth is a card game convention devoted to Middle Earth CCG and Lord of the Rings LCG. And I didn’t play any of those games…
Boskone 60 – my fourth virtual trip to Boston
A few years ago I would never believe to attend three Boskones in a row. Yet here I am – thanks to the marvel of hybridization world became even smaller than before. At Boskone 58 I was completely enchanted and I enjoyed Boskone 59 so how did the Boskone 60 go?

Nordcon – relaxacon in the pandemic times
Last year I didn’t go to Nordcon. I had to resign because of the pandemic. Yet this year I decided to go. I was afraid – it is a long convention and it is a relaxacon. This means there is plenty of socializing which I love. Still the pandemic is not yet over (despite what the government states) and I was a bit concerned.

Imladris – Polcon – Natcon Comes Back to Kraków
That was a weekend! I hope people had good time. As for me I was too busy to properly enjoy the con. I liked it! Yet as I spent most of it doing things it is hard for me to say how it looked for members.

Octocon 2022 – missing to be there
The time flews by so fast! I was at Octocon 2022 just “a minute ago” and suddenly a few weeks passed by. What I regret is that I didn’t make it to Dublin. Don’t understand me wrong! I like the online cons. Yet somehow I was feeling that I miss out so much. Maybe the time has come for me to engage more in in-person events and skip a bit the hybrid ones?
