This category is even more difficult than Best Proffesional Artist. The level of the presented works is amazing and choosing the order on the ballot here was a challenge to me. Once again I concentrate more on how I like the art and not necessarily on the deeper interpretation.
Hugo Musings – Best Professional Artist
Best Professional Artist is quite tough for me to write about. Firstly it is easier to judge a single work than a whole year of someone’s creativity. Secondly I am not well versed in interpreting visual arts. So instead of trying to interpret the works I am rather concentrating on my “do I like it?” feeling.
Hugo Musings – Novellas
I like novellas. They are long enough to tell a more complicated story but are relatively short and thus allow us to read them fast. Some of my favourite SF works fall into this category. I was looking forward to read nominated novellas.
Please be aware that the post below may contain some spoilers.
The order in which I covered the stories is not the one I used on the ballot.
Hugo Musings – Novelettes
So here they are – my musings about the second category of works nominated for Hugo Awards – Novelettes. First of all I must mention that there will be some spoilers in this post. If you haven’t read the stories and you don’t like spoilers it may be best to refrain from continuing reading this.

Hugo Musings – Short Stories
The time has come for me to go through works nominated for the Hugo Awards this year. I am almost sure I won’t manage to vote in every category (I never do) but I hope to be able to cover at least some of them. I thought that I may write some of my thoughts – and here I am. First of all I must mention that there will be some spoilers in this post. If you haven’t read the stories and you don’t like spoilers it may be best to refrain from continuing reading this post.
Rattlin’ con
I managed to write my third filk. It was inspired by a beautiful Irish song Rattlin’ bog.
A glimpse back at 2020
2020 was a strange and difficult year. Everyone faced some challenges. I am aware, I was the lucky one and did not face things that overwhelmed me. Yet in this post I want to summarize 2020 in purely fannish topics and not go into other matters.
TGIFF is coming
The Galactic Imaginarium Film Festival (TGIFF) is approaching really fast!
Just a blink of an eye ago it was way ahead of me and now it is almost here. I must say I look forward to it. There are a few reasons why – one of them is because I am a special guest at the event. It makes me happy and slightly nervous. But most important fact are the movies. You can check the programme here. I did not yet made my decisions about which films to watch but I will do it soon.
The Galactic Imaginarium Film Festival
To my surprise, recently I received an interesting and very pleasant e-mail. It was an invitation to join The Galactic Imaginarium Film Festival (TGIFF) as a guest. It was something I couldn’t simply refuse so I said yes and now I would like to share some news about the event with you.
Online geeking
Oh dear! The beginning of 2020 is not what we all hoped for. With the pandemic around, we had to really change a lot. Conventions are being cancelled or postponed until summer/autumn. Smaller gatherings are also being cancelled (or moved online). And I believe I am not the only who misses meeting with people… Luckily, a few interesting geeky initiatives appeared.
