It was a very unusual convention for me. Krakówò Zimōwō was a furry con and not being a fury myself, I didn’t know what to expect yet I was curious.
Zjava 13 – a gaming convention where I didn’t play
My convention season opening for 2024 was Zjava 13 – a winter con run by the Avangarda society in Warsaw. It was a gaming con but somehow I didn’t play any game. Instead I had a great time – mainly through meeting people.

EFF 2024 Race Begins
The EFF Nomination period ended on 25th January 2024. Two candidates provided all the required nominators as well as the bond and the platform. They are (in the alphabetical order) Jane Mondrup from Denmark and Joro Penchev from Bulgaria. The winner of the race will travel to the Eurocon in Rotterdam (16th-19th August).
2023 A Lazy Year?
When I look at my blog I have an impression it was a lazy year. But was it really? I don’t think so. At least I don’t feel like I got a lot of rest and time to be lazy. Yet what I see is that certain things did not go as efficiently as I would love them to. One of them being the blog itself.
Nordcon XXXVI – Fantasy & RPG theme plus the winter sea
I usually close my convention year with Nordcon. It takes place in the beginning of December in the north of Poland. 2023 is no different. I attended Nordcon XXXVI and it was a good closure of the year despite the fact that the con stared in a bit hard way for me.

2024 EFF Call for Nominations for the Second Race
We are very happy to announce the start of nominations to the 2nd European Fan Fund race! After last years’ success we are positive that maintaining EFF is worth it!
EFF is the European Fan Fund which transports European SF fans to Eurocons.
The purpose of the EFF is to create and strengthen bonds between European fans and fandoms. Currently in almost every country there is a fandom that quite often has little or even no connection to the broader European fandom. Most fans do concentrate on the “here and now” and are not looking for friends in other countries.
Nominations in the race to send a fan to Erasmuscon (Eurocon 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, 16-19 August 2024; https://www.erasmuscon.nl) are open to any European fan living outside Netherlands who was active in fandom prior to January 2022.
If you wish to stand, please contact us at europeanfanfund@gmail.com. You will need three European nominators (who will each need to confirm their nominations), a platform of no more than 200 words to appear on the ballot, a bond of €12/£10 and a guarantee to attend the 2024 Eurocon in Netherlands if you win.
Among your nominators there must be at least one fan from your country and one fan from another European country.
If you wish to stand and are unsure about how to go about getting any of these things, what the fund pays for or the duties of an EFF delegate and administrator, then feel free to contact us in confidence – we’re happy to help!
Nominations are open from 5 December 2023 until 25 January 2024 (British/Irish Time: UTC) and candidates will be announced soon after. Voting will then run until 23:59 on 1 April 2024 (British/Irish Time: UTC+1), with the winner announced online as soon as possible after voting has closed.
Nominations should be sent via email to the current administrators (Matylda Naczyńska and Marcin Kłak) at europeanfanfund@gmail.com. The bond can be sent by PayPal to europeanfanfund@gmail.com, or contact us for bank transfer details. If needed we can also take cash in person.
The idea of the EFF and the rules are available here.
Please disseminate widely.
The above announcement and the FAQ can be found in this document.
Imladris XXI – An Excellent Weekend
Some days are bad and some are good. The weekend of Imladris XXI was definitely in the latter category. The convention felt exactly as it should. It was a good mixture of programme and socializing. I didn’t know what I needed before the con but during it I understood that I am in a right place.
Octocon 2023 And My Busy Weekend
It was my fourth virtual Octocon! And again I regretted that I was not able to join the convention in person. Yet I still managed to enjoy those two days.
Kapitularz Polconem – convention I needed
I was in a bad mood. Or at least not in the best mood. I was exhausted and there were moments when I felt like “why am I even going?” And Kapitularz Polconem changed my approach. It was a convention I needed!

Ryucon 2023 – My New Beginning (?)
There were times when I was active in manga and anime fandom. In fact those were my beginnings (I already wrote about it). Some years ago, however, I almost completely left that part of fandom. Yet in the pandemic times I moved back closer to it.
