Almost one year ago, I wrote a post about the idea for the European Fan Fund. Since then, we received a few comments about the idea and we were able to move forward a little bit. We are much closer to starting the fund then a year ago, but we are not there yet.
200 is a nice number
Last month I attended Imladris 2019 – my 200th convention. It was a great jubilee and I am so happy it happened to be at Imladris. Since then, I spent quite some time thinking about my time spent with fandom and how much I enjoy it.
The Irish Fandom Trip
A few years ago, I somehow learned about The Enchanted Duplicator. I found this book of extreme relevance even to nowadays fandom and I really enjoyed reading it. Knowing this, it may be no surprise for you to hear that when Geri Sullivan, the TAFF delegate, announced a trip backtracking the history of Irish Fandom (or parts of it), I had to participate in it. The tour took place on Thursday just before the Eurocon TitanCon (in fact, we had to miss first hours of the con).
“Fandom stories” – a tale about Polish fandom
Usually, I avoid writing about books that would be problematic for my readers to read but this time I am making an exception. I am doing this as I believe that the book Fandom stories is important enough to mention it here. This is a reportage about the Polish fandom written by a person who does not consider himself as a member of it. The book is mainly targeted at a general audience, but as a long-time fandom member I still found it quite fascinating.

Work, work, work
As I was writing before, I am chairing the Krakowska Sieć Fantastyki society (The SFF Network of Krakow). I do not write about it often enough, so here is a good occasion to change it. Still, the bad part is that I am not as successful being a chair as I would like to be.
Making fanzines
I have been reading some Australian fanzines recently. I checked mainly Wild Goose by Roman Orszanski and iOTA by Leigh Edmonds. The 15th issue of the latter somehow reminded me of the fanzines I used to contribute to. Well, it is a good inspiration, I believe, especially since fanzines appeared as topic worth discussing during my GUFF trip.
On letter writing
I read a review of the Alita film today. And it reminded me that I had a nice fan art I obtained many years ago so I tried to look for it. And in the binder where the fan art was I had a bunch of letters in as well. They date back to the time when I joined a pen friend club. It was not a fandom-related activity itself yet at this time it was an important thing for my geeky self.
European Fan Fund
I was thinking about creating a small Fan Fund to allow people from different countries to attend Eurocon. My dream is to have fandom more internationally connected (well, this is one of the reasons I started blogging). I think that allowing people to travel to other countries is a good step forward.
2018 was an awesome year – how will the 2019 look like?
I am writing this in 2018, but when these words will appear online, we will all be in 2019. I should summarize my year here, but it is not an easy task. So many things have happened, so many of them were totally surprising – it is still difficult for me to grasp all these events. Yet I will try to provide you with a short description on how this year went for me.
