So there is an SFF club in Poland that reached 40 years. A good age and they are still pretty active. Their flagship convention is called Bachanalia Fantastyczne and I decided to join their anniversary celebration! It was a bit tough week for me as on Wednesday night I cam back from a business trip just to travel to the con the next day after work.

I cannot write objectively about this year’s Worldcon. I was heavily involved in Chicon 8 and I should not try to rate how good the con was. Yet I will write about my experience and how the convention went for me.

It is a bit surreal to me that yet again I am writing a report from in person convention! Over the pandemic times I got so used to attending everything from home that writing a third con report from in-person event sounds strange. Not bad though! Just strange. But here we go – this is my report from Bazyliszek.

I was supposed to visit Pyrkon in 2020 – and as it was the case with most cons that year I didn’t get the chance. The team decided not to go into online form (although they made some other online events, as well as in person fairs during the pandemic). All in all the Pyrkon 2022 was the first that took place after three years that passed since 2019.
Over two years ago I attended ZjAva – my last convention before the pandemic started. Since then I managed to participate in many cons but I always did it online. Yet Luxcon Eurocon 2022 was the first from a new era for me. I am back to attending in person. Of course I plan to be at some more virtual/hybrid events but I hope to visit some more in-person ones too!

I cannot believe it but it seems twenty years have passed since I joined fandom. Unfortunately I somehow missed the date. I should have been celebrating on 2nd March as my first convention – DOJIcon 2 took place March 2nd 2002. Twenty years – who would have thought? Certainly not me those twenty years ago.
DisCon III may not be the first hybrid convention yet for sure it was the first hybrid Worldcon. This means it came with its own set of challenges. The situation was very unique (as it was the case for CoNZealand) and some of the solutions were not tested before. So how did it go?
It was known that this will come – the time of hybrid conventions. I am not sure which one was the first – it is possible I missed something. Yet for sure SMOFCon Europe was one of the first. I had the chance to work on it. It was an interesting endeavour. I made some mistakes, I learned a lot and I had a good time.
Copernicon 2021 did something remarkable. They decided not only to reproduce their venue in the IT environment. They reproduced large part of the old city in Toruń. There were some issues (I’ll cover them later) but in general what they did was absolutely amazing.
For the second time Kapitularz had to be organized online. Similarly to last year I managed to attend it. I rather enjoyed the con however I missed socializing. Yet let’s move to the details.
