I rarely have the occasion to visit Eastercons in person. In fact I did it only in 2018 and 2019. Yet since convention went online (or hybrid) it became way easier for me to participate in this event. I was very satisfied with online offering last year, but Conversation went beyond my expectations.

Outcome of the 2023 European Fan Fund Race
It is my pleasure and duty to announce the results of the first ever EFF race.
I wanted to attend Corflu for a few years. It wasnot so easy though. The previous European one was in 2021 when I was not feeling confident enough to travel to an in-person convention. When I was willing to travel a year ago it was held too far away. Yet both in 2021 and 2022 I attended Corflu online. So the 40th Corflu Craic in Belfast was in a way my first and third fanzine convention at the same time (hence it is my fird convention!).

There are many reasons I am going to conventions. Yet this one was very specific. Lure of Middle-Earth is a card game convention devoted to Middle Earth CCG and Lord of the Rings LCG. And I didn’t play any of those games…
A few years ago I would never believe to attend three Boskones in a row. Yet here I am – thanks to the marvel of hybridization world became even smaller than before. At Boskone 58 I was completely enchanted and I enjoyed Boskone 59 so how did the Boskone 60 go?

The EFF nomination period ended on 25th January. Two candidates provided all the required nominators as well as the bond and the platform. They are (in alphabetical order) Matylda Naczyńska from Poland and James Shields from Ireland. The winner of the race will travel to the Eurocon in Uppsala (8th-11th June).
2022 was a year when I came back to attending in-person conventions. The pandemic is not over and I am trying to be cautious but I was missing meeting people and enjoying the atmosphere. Yet I did not forget about the online and hybrid events!

Last year I didn’t go to Nordcon. I had to resign because of the pandemic. Yet this year I decided to go. I was afraid – it is a long convention and it is a relaxacon. This means there is plenty of socializing which I love. Still the pandemic is not yet over (despite what the government states) and I was a bit concerned.

EFF is the European Fan Fund which transports European SF fans to Eurocons.
The purpose of the fan fund is to create and strengthen bonds between European fans and fandoms. Currently in almost every country there is a fandom that quite often has little or no connection to the broader European fandom. Most fans do concentrate on the “here and now” and are not looking for friends in other countries.
