Smofcon 35 or what do you do when you are not organizing a con

Smofcon 35 was an important experience for me. It was the first time that I was able to attend a convention in the USA. The nature of the con was, however, not typical for US, as Smofcon is a convention dedicated to conrunners and the programme is circling around conrunning and not any SF/F issues. Still, it was a great opportunity for me and I am really, really happy I was able to attend it.

Imladris XVI – a reminder of good old times

Imladris has a special place in my heart. It was not the first convention I was a member of (this title belongs to DOJIcon 2), but it was the first SF convention I had the pleasure to attend. A few years ago I was very disappointed to learn that the con would be discontinued. To my delight, the convention was revived in 2013 after several years on hiatus. I suppose it is not a big surprise that I’ve been doing my best to visit Imladris every year since then. This year was no exception.

Octocon 2017 – the Irish National SF convention

I wanted to go to Octocon for a few years, but it was usually held on the same weekend as Imladris in my home city and therefore I didn’t have the chance to visit the Irish national convention until now. Fortunately, this year Octocon and Imladris were not held at the same time so I finally was able to visit the Dublin-based convention.

Tarcon strikes back

The weekend of 8-10 September was quite busy for me. There were two conventions happening nearby. The first was Lemcon – a one-day event devoted to Stanisław Lem (part of the writer’s birth anniversary celebration). It was held in Kraków and my friends were organizing it. Therefore I helped a little bit the day before and on Saturday morning. Then I travelled to a nearby city of Tarnów for Tarcon – an old convention that was reactivated this year.

Good and bad sides of Polcon 2017

Polcon is one of the most important conventions to me. Since my first one in 2010, I try to attend it each year and till today, I have succeeded with just one exception: in 2015. Every year Polcon takes place in a different city and is therefore organized by someone else. A week ago it was held in Lublin, in the eastern part of Poland. Hod did the Polcon 2017 go?

Worldcon 75 – The Great Experience part 2

Worldcon is a pretty difficult event to organise. Your team will probably consist of people who live in different time zones and don’t know each other prior to the beginning of the work. I really like how it worked this year and I am grateful to all the staff members who made participating in Worldcon 75 organisation such a memorable experience.

You can find first part of my report here.

Worldcon 75 – The Great Experience part 1

Oh dear! Worldcon 75 was such an exhausting and memorable event. Despite the fact it has ended a few days ago, I am still not fully recovered. Nevertheless, I will try to make a proper convention report. This time it will be split into two posts since Worldcon is somehow huge. Also I have more than one perspective on it, being both a Worldcon member and a staffer. I will try to be impartial but you know – it is not 100% possible when you have devoted a lot of your time and heart to the convention.
